VHB double sided tape has a hard acrylic substance which is intended for permanent fixing. The tensile strength of VHB tapes is considerably higher than with regular types of double sided tape. Their high resistance to solvents, high temperatures and UV light makes VHB tapes extremely suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, particularly where very high demands are placed. The ideal application temperature is between +21 °C and +38 °C.
Normal double sided tapes only fasten to the raised parts of a surface and so lose much of their effectiveness. The adhesive acrylic foam in the VHB tapes flows into cavities and indentations, providing the maximum possible contact with the entire surface and hence much better adhesion. The VHB tapes can replace many different traditional bonding methods (surface-to-surface) such as: glue, rivets, screws, nuts and bolts, spot welding, pop rivets and many other mechanical joints. For surfaces with a low surface energy, such as polyethylene, polypropylene and powder-lacquered surfaces, VHB 4952 is recommended. In the case of painted surfaces on metal, PVC or powder-lacquered surfaces, VHB 4943F is suitable 4943F can be applied at temperatures as low as 0 °C. VHB 4910F is a highly transparent tape that is ideal where ''invisible bonds'' are required, e.g. on glass door handles, etc.
