These testers may be used on 3-phase circuits to check the presence and sequence of the phases. This is particularly important on motor circuits since a phase reversal will cause a motors direction to reverse. The testers will give visual indication of loss of phase or an incorrect sequence. They are supplied in two forms: Probe style: The connections to the tester are via three heavily insulated cables to three fused test probes, one with an insulated crocodile clip termination. Plug style: A 16A, 4-pin, 3-phase & earth, BS4343 plug is fitted to the tester. This form is useful, as a socket tester, prior to plugging in portable 3-phase equipment.
